Fly fly away
Today we flew.
Our flight left at just past noon so we left the house at 8 to try long term marking. I was sick with anxiety, just super nauseous and breathing shallowly. Kiernan had a migraine and was on the verge of throwing up. Megan’s period started and every stress fell on David.
An auspicious start indeed.
Then I got this on my phone.
Then it was a get things done one thing at a time. I always like a list but in states of high anxiety they are the anchor for my mind.
We made it to the parking and got a shuttle and then got through security. (check, check, and check) David and the Kids went through TSA clear. I went the regular way. we met in the concourse shuttle.
So at least on the day we went the special clearance doesn't seem worth it to me.
Both of the kids started feeling better.
We filled up the kids with healthy smoothies and chick fil a. I kept checking the weather and the storms kept moving a hour back and forth from our flight.
I took my lorazepam 20 minutes before boarding.
We got out just before the storm hit. The captain said that some flights behind us were grounded.
We had a few bumps getting up but the captain and crew on that first flight were so chill and communicative that I felt reassured and nearly calm. I’m sure the drugs helped.
David and I were talking about how we wish the kids could have the flight experience that we had as kids. I remember thinking TWA was a cool place to be. I’ve never liked flying but I didn’t use to dread the cattle car, and there were the honey roasted peanuts.
This set of flights rounded up to 0-12 hours and they included no meals and charged a stupid amount for bags and jammed us all in. That being said I loved the snacks. The brought us all stroopwafles and fancy pretzels. I got lemon ginger tea and spicy tomato juice.
Kiernan got a chicken Parmesan sandwich, so we did end up buying food.
I got my headphones paired and listened to music. I couldn’t focus on any movies but did surprisingly well. I played lots of games and we got in almost 30 minutes early.
I have good memories of SFO from earlier stops. It did not disappoint.
I got a great hummus and veggie sandwich and Meg got a bagel and Kiernan got a Castro (roast beef) and David a mission (turkey avocado). We wandered around to blow off some cortisol and came across robot coffee and Dubai chocolate.
I was feeling much better having finished a flight and had an easier time talking myself back on to the next one.
It was less smooth and chatty than the last but had Lord of the Rings movies so I took another pill and watched Two Towers and got another abbreviated flight to Kona.
We landed at sunset and grabbed our bags. The sun went down and my dad picked us up with a Costco pizza and Lei's
We drove 2 hours to their place and ate fresh fruit and drank this very good coconut water and went to bed.
That was a long hard day. It went better than I had anticipated and I am soooo happy to be done with that.
